Bob Marley Timeline
1945
February 6th, Bob Marley is born. The son of a black teenage girl named Cedella Brooker and an older white man, Norval Marley, who was absent almost all of Bob’s life.
1950
Bob Marley arrives in Kingston. He lived in the poorest part of the city called Trench Town.
Trench Town was where he found most of his inspiration for music. He was interested in the Motown of Jamaica, a number of successful local performers that got together and sang. Bob was also fascinated in American music too, like Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and the Drifters.
1963
At only 18, Bob Marley started his career with the Wailers, a group he formed with
Peter McIntosh (soon to be known as Peter Tosh) and one of his childhood friends,
Bunny Livingston. The group got together and created the song "Simmer Down", which
aced the Jamaican charts
1966
Bob marries Rita Anderson, and they move to America to see Bob's mother
1968
Bob learns about Rastafarianism from Rita. Rastafarianism is a big meaning in Marley's music, and this is when the band starts
singing about it
1976
Gunmen break in to Marley's home in Kingston during the Jamaican general election campaign. At the home were Marley, Rita, their manager Don Taylor, other friends and five children. All adults are shot and wounded. Marley was shot in his upper body and arm and Rita receives a head wound, yet all who were shot survived.
1977
Bob Marley is diagnosed with a cancer in his toe.
Marley gets a choice to amputate, yet he denies since it is against his religion
1980
While Bob is jogging in Central Park, he collapses due to cancer and is hospitalized
1981
Bob Marley passes away at the age of 36.
1994
Bob is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame by U2 singer, Bono.
